The clock ticks passed 4.10AM. There she is, lying awake in bed staring blankly at the ceiling fan. The only source of light in her bedroom is a faint stream of moonlight slipping through a thin gap in the curtains, but her eyes are adapted to the darkness and she is able to make out the outline of the blades. Her head reeling with endless thoughts, and she can feel a heartache coming on. Only this time, the pain is so strong she no longer can suppress or pretend its not there. Sniffles turn into tears.

Growing up, most people would think Leah live a picture-perfect life. It certainly looks like it from the outside. But the truth is, she's broken inside. What everyone doesn't know is that Leah has a disturbing secret - a childhood trauma that changed her life forever. Bounded by her fears, she had never told a soul. All those years kept silent, she fooled the world.

Because of her painful past, Leah has never been a true believer in anything; She live for experiences. And sometimes, it's very easy to get caught in the spur of the moment. The thing about lace it's that there is a fine line between sexy and, well, tacky. Personally, I quite like lace as it adds a sensual touch to an outfit.

Love it or hate it?

After a few tries, I decided to get this lace dress. For one, a dress that actually fits me! And two, it has an open-end zipper detailing at the back which I like. Though, I won't be buying any more dresses for a long time. Plus, me and dresses never really get along as they are often not flattering on my short torso. I am glad this doesn't cut off my already short torso.

I have to admit: I have problems making decisions. Of course I am not so hopeless that I struggle to choose between coffee and tea, but I am so hopeless that I can’t work out what I want to do with my life. In fact, I have no clue what I want! Truth be told, I know what I do not want.

I am good at a lot of things. I am good at writing, illustrations, crafts, cooking, and even photography (mostly by chance, still). You see, I’m just good, but not good enough to make a living from it and not good enough to make a career out of it.

And now I find myself in a dilemma, agonizing about my decisions as my brain struggles to make any rational conclusions (again). Believe me, I can agonize about it for days, weeks, months, even years if no one compels me to decide! Well, big and important ones that is irreversible. Making decisions seems impossible at times like these – there are too many unknowns, too many conflicting opinions, too much. And, I’m scared.

I wanted to call in sick to work and just ... sleep - Today is one of those days. One of those days where I feel I am not fill in the blanks* enough. Not smart enough, not talented enough, and just not THAT enough. But I eventually forced myself out of bed, threw on the most unflattering shirt, dragged my butt to work and chained myself on the desk from 8-5. It was hell and I'm glad today is over!

Winter - As August turns into September in Auckland, we bid goodbye to darkness as the nights get shorter and winter coats can finally be tucked away. Greeted with the soft sound of rain this morning when I woke up, I play dress up to liven up the mood. Being cold intolerance, I threw on a trench coat along with a grey pashmina scarf. If you're wondering, my skirt is not THAT short when I stand up, it is to a work-appropriate length.

Thank you all for your kind words and well wishes on my birthday. Thank you for remembering (be it stumbling upon on Facebook), I truly appreciate it all.
Forget fancy dinners, surprise parties and expensive gifts. Truth is, I've got the best birthday present I could ever have - JS flew 5374 miles to spend my birthday with me! I feel blessed, loved and awful at the same time because the poor boy had a horrible flight experience. And worse, he has to wait for me at home five days a week because I now have what people called it - a job.
He will be going back soon, please let me be selfish for a little while longer because it will be another 3 months before I can be in his arms again. That's long for me.

My romance with cameras was a late-blooming affair that started when I got my first Diana F+ for my birthday last year. And since, film photography completely took over. I wanted more control over my photographs, and there is only so much control you can have with a plastic toy camera, so I started exploring vintage film cameras. Boy, am I hooked! I know I am (on the verge of) getting out of control when my closet starts to look like a cabinet for antique cameras. Even so, I still very much love the simplicity and random spontaneity effects of a Lomo camera. I think I need help.

Livan

A new friend.

It gets tough sometimes, being alone. I'm not talking about shopping alone, or roaming around the city aimlessly alone, or having coffee alone, because I have no problem with any of that at all. It's a whole different story.

Things haven't been great lately, besides meeting Livan. She has been amazing. I enjoy her company and I like listening to the stories of her life, because that helps take all the things that go on in my head away. All my problems, gone. For a while, at least.

Livan is such a darling. I will definitely miss her when she goes back to HK this weekend.

He makes me want to book the next flight home; so I could be in his arms again, so I could bury my face in his neck, breathing the familiar scent that never fails to comfort me. But at the same time, he also gives me the strength to keep fighting, when I am at my lowest point.

Guess what came in the mail box for me today! Rolleicord V; she is one sturdy little attention seeker.

I am really not a fan of secondhand items, especially when it comes to clothing (among other things). No offense, I just can't get past myself. This time around, however, I actually wanted an used medium-format twin lens reflex camera. I want it old and vintage; I want one that has a history, so I can ponder on who was the very first owner, where it traveled, and the photographs it snapped. This model was produced between 1954 - 1957, and a little bit of paint has chipped off around the back. But that's okay, really. No, wait - Actually, it is more than okay. IT'S PERFECT! Because that shows a sign of age and use. The previous owner decided to let this gorgeous vintage go; calling it mine never felt better - I am in total awe.

Don't you worry now, she's in good hands.

No one does it like her.

If I were to turn my analog photographs into postcards, would you want to receive them in your letter box? Or even pay for them?

A starting point. Combining two things that I am passionate about into one - analog photography and postcards. The idea spring to mind when I stop beating myself up over some issues.

Why postcards, you ask? You see, little did I know how big an impact a 4x6' piece of thin card with postage stamps could bring, until I live miles away from home. Then, I start really appreciating them. It reminds me that I am not forgotten. And those little thoughts help me get through rough days and bad weathers. Then, I start sending them out as well; making sure people whom I care about know that they are not forgotten, and remind them how awesome they are.

Consider this. Do you rather receive a generic ridiculous E-card or one with inks and genuine handwriting? It's no rocket science to send a postcard, really. Please don't give excuses like "I don't have time", that's bullocks.

I am not sure how this will all end up, but I am up for it. Because the thing is, I do what I like because I like what I do. I will never regret dedicating my life doing something I am passionate about.

So, now what? Execution, duh! in order to hit all the right buttons, every aspects require close attention. Meaning, I need time to work on all those little details. This may not be totally comprehensive (yet), but at the very least, it keeps one's feet on the ground. I know, not much. But that's something.

I appreciate candid photography. I love the spontaneity and the unstaged essence of a photograph. I am interested in how a photograph feels, and how it makes different people that see it feels different every time. The major theme of my work is people, obviously - Hence, the title. My favourite model? Hint: You would have guessed it if you have seen all my albums on facebook. Personally, I think candid photographs capture life at their rawest edges; they capture the spontaneity of a moment, at the right split second of time. 100% unobtrusive, and so full of life.

These are taken while I was in HK with my Diana Mini in half-frame format.

I can't say my photographs have achieved what I desire it to be/feel, yet. But what I can tell you is, (some) people I know are afraid of me pointing the camera at them and shoot, unprepared. I is no stalker, Y U NO let me take your picture?!!

Edit: My view on Diana Mini? In short, it is extremely easy to point and shoot, very straight forward. The shuttle is surprisingly sturdy - considering it's a camera made of plastic. Also, only half the size of a regular Diana F+, made it twice as easy to carry around! The only downside, not as versatile - you can't use any accessories on it, e.g. lens, instant back and etc. Nevertheless, the Diana Mini is still love. I absolutely love, love, loveeee the half-frame format!

P.S. Ouh, and I have got a conclusion for my previous blank rolls. I am very sure it is faulty processing! Pissing off, bloody hell.

Hong Kong; Always rushing.

Finally, something worthy to post on Pinkadee Mondays! Two pictures to make up for the long hiatus. I was in HK for 7 days. Besides the long hours flight, there's nothing to complain about. It is a beautiful country. Though, people are always rushing - rushing to destinations, rushing to finish tasks, rushing to catch the bus - I feel stressed out myself. I didn't get to see as much as I want to, only 4 days to get around HK is not enough. I would do this all over again.

P.S. I want to thank JS's lovely aunt and uncle for their heart warming hospitality. Thank you for having me.

Ordinarily, she'd ask lots of questions before she commits in anything. But this time around, facts are thin on the ground and the swift pace preludes all but the vaguest of discussions. So many questions, but no answers. This leaves her with only 2 options: To either plunge in now, or take the risk she'd miss out on everything.

"Im going now", he said softly.

"When will you be back?", she asked in reply, while looking deep into his eyes, trying to look for some, or any sort of reassurance. He has always loved the way she looks into his eyes, so longingly, because for at that time when she does, it seems as if nothing else is more important, but her, and without any care in the world. Only this time, he could sense insecurities in her trembling voice, fear in her sad brown eyes. At that very moment, his heart died a little inside. He knows. He knows although she may look fine on the outside, the little girl in her is hurting.

He locks his arms firmly around her 5ft2 petite frame, and he could smell her sweet perfume so serene - Just like her. And he whispers into her ear, "We'll set our phone alarms daily for 11.59pm, so at that moment, we both would think of each other", whiles his warm breath caresses her skin, and his soft lips trailed a path from her ear to her neck.

This is a first for her. This isn't a 7days trip, nor is it a short break away from each other. This is real. They are going to be in different time zone, without cuddles to fight the cold, without kisses to take away pain, for God knows how long. With all the lingering doubts, she hesitated at first. She couldn't bear the thought of waking up every morning to an empty bed. But then she thought to herself, she would rather die trying than to regret later in life for not trying at all.

Anyway, when excitement turns into disappointment - I didn't get much photographs out of this roll. When the negatives came back blank, I was dumbfounded. I'm not sure what happened, so I have come up with 3 hypothesis:

1. Crazy severe case of flash washout
2. Light leaks causing the film to over-expose
3. Faulty processing

I will be back with a conclusion, and hopefully soon!

On a more serious topic, a heartbreaking one; My thoughts and prayers go out to the people in and around Japan. Please, please stay safe.

When I was younger, my mom always blocks the telly cleaning invisible dust off the top of the television. Every. Single. Day. Worst thing is, she tends to do it in the middle of a movie climax, and every few hours in ONE day. Clean freak much? It irritates the shit outta me and I swore to myself that I will never be like her. But as time goes by, now that I’m 22 years of age, I see myself to be more and more like her. Don’t get me wrong – I’m not embarrassed and I still love her very much. But because I grow up in a literally spotless environment, I cannot stand any dirtiness. Well, besides making my bed. That’s the only thing I can stand leaving it messy and undone, since it’s going to be messy again every damn night! Also, its my way to irritate the shit out of my mom! I tell you, it works like a charm. LOL

My parents, especially my mom has.. hm, how should I put it. Let’s just say, she has an unusual way of parenting. Unlike a typical traditional Asian, I suppose. For example, you know how a Chinese family normally has steel fences/gates installed at their homes? Yes, we used to have that when I was living in an apartment in Malaysia. Being a kid, my brother and I love monkey-ing on them, see who could climb higher. And we wouldn’t stop. So one day, mom got so pissed she asks us to stay up there, and if any one of us come down, or even try coming down, you’ll see a cane flying our way. She wouldn’t even let us go to the toilet! After staying up there for what seem as long as waiting for paint to dry, until our little hands and feet are numb, until after one of us pee in our pants (I forgot if it was me or my brother, but I would insist it was my brother, lol) mom finally let us come down. Boy, did that work. My brother and I never climb on gates again, ever!

That aside. My point is, I hate dirty kitchens. I hate wet cookwares. I enjoy cooking, but only in my own kitchen, or a spotless one. Before I moved to this new place, I was living with 3 other housemates and I never cook more than 5 times in that 8 months. Reason being, a filthy kitchen disgust me, and I got extremely fed up cleaning up after their mess. I hate cleaning up people’s mess. C’mon, how old are you!? One of them will do the cooking, and the other one cleans. But, how can it be clean when you wash faster than you can tweet! My housemates are nice people, just not the cleanest.

Call me anal, or whatever you like. A lovely friend of mine, Alysia once said, and I quote her, "I'm not anal, I just like things done in a particular way".

Okay, I don't know what's the point to this but now that I got it out of my system.. Bedtime!

The Palm Bungalow, Waiheke Island

I was stationed to work in Waiheke Island for a day. So I thought, instead of just traveling all the way there for work, might as well stay the night and explore; After all, I do not always get a chance to travel. Plus, summer, sand, sun and beach, how can that possible go wrong, right?? My my, the only time the sun came out to play was during the 3hours of my shift. Grr.

Highlights of AUT Summer Graduation 2010 that make up for the shitty weather:

1. A really close friend of mine, did a little dance on stage when we cheered for him. It was really spontaneous, and not to mention cute!

2. A lady in her late 30's was on stage receiving her Doctoral Degree, and a face among the crowd in the hall, shouted "I love you, mom!"

3. This guy, took 2 self-portraits on stage with his phone - one with the Dean of Faculty, and the other with the Chancellor, while receiving his certificate. LOL!

A lovely friend of mine borrowed me her 35mm back, and I recently shot a roll of film with my Diana F+'s standard 75mm lens. Diana+ 35mm back comes with 4 masks, I chose to use the 33x34mm mask, which is the square prints with sprocket holes. I love the sprocket holes effect, absolutely vintage! I also like the fact that this is much cheaper to process compared to the normal 120 films. However, the sprocket holes will not show up in the prints if you get it developed at your normal lab. So, I won't be posting any photographs until I invest in a film scanner.

Lush Baby Face Cleansing Bar - literally, look at it! The nice lady at the counter told me they are discontinuing this to bring in new products, oh noes! I guess you can always opt for Lush Ultra bland, its Baby Face in cream disguise! Although, I'd much prefer this - solid makes it much easier to carry around, unlike Ultra Bland cream base cleanser. Maybe I should get a few more bars to keep, just in case. Hm.

Description:
The Baby Face bar is another of our solid cleansers which we developed in order to avoid using preservatives on the skin. It melts on the skin so you can softly smooth it all over the places which need cleansing (it's an excellent make-up remover) then to take it off use warm water on 100% cotton wool or a face cloth and you will be astonished at both how lovely and soft your face feels and how clean the Baby Face gets it. Each smiling bar has four different natural plant butters in it to remove dirt and put back moisture. Its lovely scent comes from toning tangerine oil, narcissus (which we use to make so you beautiful you'll want to look at your reflection all the time) and everlasting flower (to give you everlasting beauty).

This is one of those products you either hate or love. Like the description, I use it to remove make up, and more often during the dry winter days. It is amazing, I tell you! Time consuming and odd, but 100% worth it. I wouldn't use this in Malaysia though, only because they don't have hot water sink faucets. And trust me, splashing water on your face wouldn't work.

I have dry sensitive skin, so use it at your own risk. If you have oily skin, your face will most probably end up like a greaseball.

So, I finally got my first roll of film printed. Most of the photographs are underexposed, but that's okay, there is always room for error, right? Yes, damn right! Though, I need to get a job first, because again, this is an expensive hobby. Anyway, I'll get them scan soon so I can upload em, unedited.

One comment I often get, "Aren't your wrist heavy from all that amount of bracelets you wear?".
The amount of bangles/bracelets I own are enough for me to rent a booth at a flea market for business. And when you get bored of all those that you have, or run out of new ones to buy, since you already owned most of em designs, you gotta improvise.

From a necklace I will never see myself wearing, to something I wear everyday.

Voila! My new favourite piece of accessories. Not good for my wallet, since I still am unemployed.

A starting point - the No.1 reason why i love Lomography, they praise imperfections. I hope these photographs will bring you great joy like how it brings me. I am liking the not-knowing-what-to-expect excitement, e.g. not able to see the final image immediately. Also of course, the pleasure of looking at em photographs after getting em developed, the fulfillment, and everything in between.

Plastic Soultrap - the name is inspired from what i like, and will photograph with my Diana F+. People. I want to possess souls in square sheets of paper. I want to steal the stories of the world. I want to imprison lives in 5x5 prints, and scattered them across whitewashed walls.

Today, I stumbled upon the most modest bookstore in Auckland. Well, not really stumbled upon - It was there all this while, and I passed by it a good, dozen times, just did not bother to go in because along the same street are awesome shops of clothes, shoes, accessories, more clothes and everything beautiful you can think of. The bookstore is nothing near classy, and it smells a little of musty old books. But, im actually digging that whole ambiance. If bookstores are compared to a lovely summer's day, this one definitely comes up smelling of daisies.

I saw this book, by Tim Burton but I couldn't remember the book title. It was a book of witty morbid poems with melancholic illustrations. It only takes about 15minutes or so to finish the whole book, but it was nonetheless awesome, sinisterly. Heh.

I remember the title of the poem that I especially like, Voodoo Girl - "and she has many colored pins sticking out of her heart".

Today, a guy, a Christian specifically, came up to me while I was people-watching and waiting for time to pass. Then, he started sharing his thoughts about Christianity and Easter. He was nice, actually. I normally get annoyed for such things, but I like the fact that, he did not start preaching, or trying to convert me, or pester me into going to church, or any of that sort.

"In a free society ... there is one and only one social responsibility to business - to use its resources and engage in activities designed to increase its profits so long as it stays within the rules of the game" (DesJardins & McCall, 1996, p.12).

Friedman begins from the premise that only people can have responsibilities. "A corporation is an artificial person and in this sense may have artificial responsibilities, but "business" as a whole cannot be said to have responsibilities, even in this vague sense" (DesJardins & MaCall, 1996, p.8). In a free private enterprise, corporate executives are agents of the owners of business. They are hired to run the company in accordance with their employers' desires. The only responsibility of corporate executives is to maximize profits for the owners, i.e. shareholders, while conforming to "the rules of the game". He suggests that a corporate executive is fulfilling his or her responsibility to society by making as much money possible within business. Friedman argues, companies do not have the same moral obligations as individuals. A free society should not have obligations. Thus, in Friedman's view, he rejects sacrificing profits for a general social interest because doing so violates the basis of a free society.

Above is the first 200 words of my 3000 words ethics essay, which I stayed up 3 nights for. Well, the last 3 nights before due date. Lol. Anyway, the thing is, I waited months for hand back day and when that day finally came, I was at Malaysia. Damn wrong timing, can?! I tried to collect it again last week, and I was told that assignments that are not collected has been get rid of.

..All my blood and sweat, gone just like that. I've been pondering for the longest time, what my remarks are from the lecturer. Now, all I'm left with is mystery. Sigh.

From the creepy, dark, and twisted fairy tale, to the oft-sinister fantasy world, to the visual effects, and the wacky makeup, Alice in Wonderland is terrific! I have always love Tim Burton's vision - Nightmare before Christmas, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, Edward Scissorhands, The Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and Coraline. I love it all! Alice in Wonderland is no exception. I highly recommend watching it in 3D, it just makes the visual effects simply better.
